Join together with Rabbi Goldstein and other Temple Sinai members for an unforgettable journey through the American South, February 11 – 14, 2027. Learn on-location about the Civil Rights Movement and the role of the Jewish community in this ongoing struggle.
Highlights include:
• The Rosa Parks Museum and Equal Justice Initiative’s Legacy Museum in Montgomery, AL
• Memorial for Peace and Justice – Lynching Memorial in Montgomery, AL
• Visit to the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, AL
• Tour the King Center and attend Sunday morning services at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta
Alongside these and other incredible first-hand experiences, we will engage with the contemporary realities of race and racism, the legacy of civil rights, and consider how each of us can make an impact. We will also enjoy building our own community as we travel, eat, and reflect together.
This program is run through Etgar 36, a pluralistic, nonpartisan, nonprofit Jewish educational venture that leads Jewish groups to the South. These groups seek to better understand the history of the civil rights movement and the connection between Black civil rights leaders and the Jewish community during that time, and to reflect on and consider these issues in the present moment.
