Serve with Sinai

Direct service opportunities are a great way to get involved in the tikkun olam work of Temple Sinai! These activities bring people together to meet other congregants and deepen their connection to the temple while doing important work in the greater community.

Direct Service Projects at Temple Sinai

Below are some of our upcoming programs.  The Davis Center is working to provide additional volunteer opportunities for our congregants so stay tuned and check our calendar for updates!

  • Sunday, November 16  Thanksgiving Bags project: Sinai volunteers shop for, assemble and deliver wholesome holiday foods to temple partner organizations who distribute them to families.
  • Sunday, January 18, 2026  MLK Day of Service: We are bringing this program to our community for the first time this year.  Projects will include preparing bagged lunches, packing hygiene kits, creating “soup in a jar”, a knitting/crochet circle, and more!
  • Sunday, February 8 and Sunday, April 12, 2026  Mark your calendars!  Plans are in the works for additional on-site volunteering opportunities on these days. We will update this page with details so check back soon.

Volunteers help sort donations and stock the showrooms where AWC’s clients select their items. This group tends to refuel at Parkway Deli after their shift and always welcomes newcomers. Contact Jim Jaffe or Ed Cohen to learn more.  Sign up
  • So Others Might Eat (SOME) (71 O Street, NW, DC), 6:30am – 9:30am on the 4th Sunday of each month. Volunteers help prepare and serve breakfast to SOME’s clients. Spaces are limited. Contact Wendy Kahn to learn more.  Sign up
  • DC Diaper Bank (8860 Monard Drive, Silver Spring), 10am – 12pm, dates vary. Volunteers re-bundle and pack diapers for the diaper bank’s clients. Contact Barbara Anenberg to learn more. Sign up

Special Projects

Several of the organizations receiving Lipman grants this past year have shared with us their needs for professional expertise. Some just need a pro bono consultation with an expert, others would like help on an ongoing basis. Needed areas of expertise include: human resources, web design, event planning, communications, fundraising, and more.  To learn how you may be able to put your professional talents to work for good, please contact Anne Schwartz.
